Entry Level

Overnight & Workshop Assistant – part-time

Maryland Science Center is seeking an exuberant and diligent team member to assist with coordinating and facilitating our daytime workshops and overnight experiences. Answer inquiries and help groups register for events. Assist in training part-time staff and teach fun, hands-on workshops. Ideal candidates will be detail oriented, able to work independently, have excellent customer service skills, and a desire to share fun and exciting STEAM programming with guests of all ages.

Basic Functions:

  • Process program registrations
  • Answer phone and email inquiries
  • Prepare and maintain program materials
  • Teach workshops for scout groups and families and assist in training new staff
  • Help set-up evening events
  • Communicate with volunteers

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Basic computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Basic science concepts
  • Scout program knowledge is preferred

Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Live performance/public presentations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Creativity

Abilities:

  • Work without direct supervision as necessary
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems/difficulties
  • Work occasional evening and regular weekend hours
  • Provide and model excellent guest service
  • Comfort teaching children and adults of all ages

Education:

  • A.A. degree or directly related work experience required.
  • B.S. degree in science, education, or another related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Requires one year of experience in the presentation of informal, educational programming. Administrative or event planning experience preferred.

Compensation: $15/hour

Hours: 16 hours a week over 3-4 days. Some weekend and evening hours are required based on program schedule.
