Maryland Science Center seeks an enthusiastic and highly motivated early childhood professional to be our Kids Room manager. Our early childhood exhibit is a well-established, hands-on exhibit, where families can confidently allow their youngest members to explore freely and learn the way that young children learn best. Most desirable candidates will have an undergraduate degree in early childhood, education, or a related field, experience in a managerial position, 2-5 years’ experience in a museum or informal education setting, and a basic understanding of science concepts for early childhood audiences. Kids Room Manager plays a pivotal roll in ensuring the excellent operation of one of our most popular exhibits.
Basic Functions:
- Possess a strong understanding of early childhood and young child development
- Interact with guests in a manner that is appropriate for their stage of development and model early childhood practices for others.
- Provide vision and support for the operation of Kids Room
- Supervise, evaluate, and empower full-time staff, part-time staff, and volunteers
- Manage the Kids room budget including staffing, purchase of all supplies and equipment, and general maintenance related to the exhibit
- Manages and oversees the maintenance of all supplies, equipment, animals etc. in Kids Room
- Plan and implement classroom, home school, summer camp, outreach and drop-in programming
- Participate in the programmatic and exhibit evaluation process
- Provide support to education department efforts
- Serve as ambassador for early childhood museum-wide

Positions Supervised:
Direct supervision and guidance provided to all Kids Room staff and volunteers. Some supervision and guidance provided to the Early Childhood Programmer and Outreach Manager, as appropriate to the needs of Kids Room.
Supervision Received:
Immediate supervision received from the Director of Education.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree required with emphasis in education. Experience may be substituted for some education.
Experience:
Two years previous program management with supervisory experience. Five years in an early childhood environment, museum exhibit experience preferred.
Compensation: $38,000 – $40,000 per year

Hours: 35 hours a week, five days a week, one weekend day required with some evening requirements
